Does anyone know what it is to be feminine anymore?  Actually, you don’t really hear this word much.  I am excited to broach the subject, here are 15 Characteristics Of Biblical Femininity that will clarify and challenge you.

How about Biblical Feminity?  That term is even more antiquated than the word feminine is.  Currently and as far back as the 1920’s androgyny made its presence known in a powerful way in the area of fashion and the role of women.   What it meant to be feminine started to change.  Presently, it is hard to imagine what a feminine woman even looks like as a result of the “no” gender movement.

I have to confess that when I think of the word feminine, I think of women in dresses and lots of doilies…

When I start to get confused (which I do) my first stop is always to study what the Word of God has to say about the matter.  It definitely isn’t politically correct, culturally correct, or even considered “Christianly” correct in some circles but the Bible is the very words of God, has stood the test of time and in my opinion, is the only book we should be going to when seeking guidance.

It is my prayer that we enter into the subject of Biblical Feminity with a humble and patient spirit.  That each one of us approaches the topic with prayer. with an open heart to hear some of what God has to say on the subject.

15 Characteristics Of Biblical Femininity

STRONG  (Proverbs 31:17)  There is no feminine weakness here although it is noted that the woman is the weaker vessel.  It is helpful to remember that God’s power is made perfect in your weakness.  Ask God to give you His strength.

IMAGE OF GOD  (Genesis 1:26-27)  Women are created in God’s image and with that comes a call to represent God well.

TEACHER   (Ephesians 6:1-4) Women are to teach their own children about the ways of God, Scripture, and how to love.  Women are also to teach other women.

HELPER  (Genesis 2:18)  We are to be our husband’s helper and not the other way around.  Marriage is a high calling and privilege.  We should be actively involved in helping our husband in all areas of his life.

A WOMAN  (Genesis 2:21-23)  There is no androgyny in the Bible.  Men are men with certain roles and responsibilities and women are women with their own roles and set of responsibilities.

MENTOR  (Titus 2:3-5)  We as women are to teach, disciple, and train other women to love God, their husbands, and children.

TRUSTWORTHY   (Proverbs 31:11)  Her husband, children, and church know her to be trustworthy by her speech and actions.

SUBMISSIVE  (Ephesians 5:22-24)  She is submissive to God and to her husband.

CHRIST FOLLOWER  (Deuteronomy 6:7)  She is a Christian in name and deed.

HOMEMAKER  (Titus 2:5)  Her realm of influence and the majority of her work is home-based.

ENTREPRENEUR  (Proverbs 10:31)  She creatively comes up with ways to supplement her husband’s income.

MOTHER  (Genesis 1:27-28)  If God enables her, she is to have children.  She is also to have spiritual children, teaching other women and women new in the faith.

CHURCH MEMBER  (Acts 2:39)  She is a member of her local church where she meets with other believers to worship God, serve and fellowship with other believers.

KIND (Proverbs 31:26)   She speaks words that display God’s wisdom and kindness is on her tongue.

Does anyone notice what is missing?

Any reference to appearance.  Now, that said there are other passages that refer to what a godly woman wears.  We know she pays attention to how she and her family are clothed (Proverbs 31:22) and that she dresses modestly (1 Timothy 2:9)  But nothing about her “good looks” or physical attributes.  AMAZING!

Biblical womanhood = FREEDOM

not some list of things to do or become

By this time, you might be feeling mighty overwhelmed.  I know I am, let’s join together in prayer and ask God to grow these attributes of Biblical Femininity in each of us.

YOUR TURN…

Can you name some other attributes of Biblical Femininity?

Blessings,
