Simple Short Christian Book Reviews

COOKBOOK

The Mediterranean Table will inspire and help you cook for your family in a healthy and delicious way.  So many great recipes fill this delectable book however, you may need to watch your grocery bill!

FICTION

Where Courage CallsWhere Trust LiesWhere Hope Prevails is the newest series by Janette Oke and her daughter Laurel Oke Logan.  I am a huge Janette Oke fan as the books have made such an impact on me, especially as a new Christian so many years ago.  There is something about her writing that draws me closer to Jesus and calms me down.  Simply written and pure joy to read.

SPIRITUAL

Visual Theology is a book you won’t want to miss reading.  I am a visual person so the infographic style helped to solidify and clarify Christian truths.  It was also especially helpful for my 26-year-old autistic daughter.  She absolutely loved this book.  You will want to purchase this one and keep it on your bookshelf for easy access!

I recently received the NLT Student Life Application Study Bible, Filament-Enabled Edition (Hardcover, Red Letter) for review. I immediately thought it would be a great new Bible for my daughter.  Upon receipt, I fell in love with this study Bible as it is a work of serious scholarship and decided to keep it for my own use.  It is chocked full of maps, and timelines and is incredibly helpful for visual learners.  The biblically sound commentary even has an app that you can use for even more information about the passage you are reading.  I have now replaced my tried and true ESV Study Bible with the NLT Student Life Application Study Bible. You are never too old to be a student!   The Bible would make a great addition to your homeschool curriculum. Good News!  Enter this GIVEAWAY to win a copy of the incomparable Student Life Application Study Bible!

GARDENING

A Woman’s Hardy Garden was written in 1903.  I picked it up because I live in a farmhouse that was built in 1903 and I was quite interested to hear what Helena Rutherfurd Ely instructed in her classic book.  This book is packed, with gardening advice and knowledge that everyone will benefit from.  Her instructions and plant suggestions are invaluable!

BIOGRAPHY

Jerusalem is not written from a Christian perspective per se but is a must-read for any believer who wants to better understand the current issues of the Middle East. As we are commanded to pray for Jerusalem, this is a great place to start!  In order to understand any geopolitical situation, we must always look at the history of the place to gain a full understanding of what is happening in the world today.  This important and well-written book will help you do just that.

HOME DECOR

Home Book: Creating a Beautiful Home of Your Own is an in-depth course in interior design.  The book is user-friendly and walks you through issues that affect the inside and outside of your home.  Rarely, have I found so detailed an approach to home decor.  No matter what your style or if you don’t even think you have a style this book is a great place to start.  If you consider yourself a pro you should still read this excellently written book as you will be guaranteed to add to your learning and understanding of home decor. Afterward, you will be a well-prepared homemaker!

HANDICRAFTS

Alterknits Felt captured me with the idea of knitting and then felting what you knit.  The projects that are described in this book are lovely with very clear directions. That said,  I can’t wait to get started!

ORGANIZING

Good Things for Organizing is a classic and so far I have not found anything better.  Jam-packed with creative solutions to organize your home and family.  The photographs alone will help you to solve storage issues and help you organize the things you have been blessed with.

CHILDREN

Big Truths for Little Kids: Teaching Your Children to Live for God is perfect for family devotions, bedtime reading, or Homeschool Bible class!  I love this book and so did every one of my children.  Susan and Richie Hunt have a delightful way of explaining big truths in a way that every child can understand.  Charming illustrations too!
