The easiest flowers and herbs for container gardens. Simple and easy, aren’t those nice words?  Doubly nice when we are talking about gardening.

Container gardening or pot gardening is the practice of growing plants, including edible plants, exclusively in containers instead of planting them in the ground. A container in gardening is a small, enclosed and usually portable object used for displaying live flowers or plants. It may take the form of a pot, box, tub, pot, basket, tin, barrel or hanging basket.

Get creative with your containers but also consider context.  What style of home do you live in?  Apartment, Condo, Colonial, Modern or Farmhouse.  For example, I live in a 1903 Farmhouse that is a very light grey with a black roof.  I use three types of pots, terracotta, black and galvanized metal buckets.  If you are using more than one style of container, the rule of thumb is to not use more than three different types of pots or the effect will be chaotic.

Make your own container potting soil by combining perlite or vermiculite, some of your own soil from your yard with other organic materials such as leaf mold and compost.  This soil mix will offer a wide spectrum of nutrients. If you are planting succulents add some grit, small stones or gravel to the potting mix.
Don’t forget to water! 🙂
