Here at my home, the only one in our family that has any natural skill in the area of home repair is my son. When my father was still alive he would come over and help us with projects. Now, we are basically on our own. The good news is that learning how to keep up your home can be done even for people who have no skill.

I have to say that it is really nice to have a book on home maintenance in your personal library. When you have a few spare minutes to fit in a project you have the resources available to complete it.

- Before you call a repairman, google it.
- When changing filters, see if you can wash or vacuum the filter instead of replacing it.
- Keep your dryer vent clear at all times.
- Be brave and DIY it.
- Purchase tools at garage sales or borrow them from family.
- Prayerfully approach your home maintenance problem and ask God to help you find a solution.
- Ask a friend of the family member for help when you need it.
- Employ a temporary fix until you can afford the real deal.
- Purchase a replacement part yourself.
- Replace your smoke detector batteries.
