There are not that many Christmas Movies made and not many that depict the TRUE  Story of Christmas. I would like to recommend The Nativity Story, while not perfect it is an excellent representation of the Birth of Christ.  The Nativity Story moved me to tears the first time I watched it, as it grasps the gospel message so well! I have provided a review and discussion questions that I hope you will find helpful!

As I contemplated why I enjoyed this movie,  I think it is because it caused me to contemplate Jesus’s birth.  The great sacrifices that Mary and Joseph went through in a culture of ritual and outward righteousness.  A true humbleness on Joseph and Mary’s part took place in their souls to bring about the birth of our Savior.  It is insightful regarding Jewish tradition, culture, and lifestyle.

As a parent, I love this movie because it is a teaching movie and leads to lots of discussions.  We watch this movie every year and it has become a family tradition!

My Children’s Reviews

Kylie:  “I love this movie because it is historically accurate.  The people look as if they were from that region of the world.  The story is Biblically sound and true.”

Hannah: “The Nativity Story makes the Bible come alive.  It shares the true story of Christmas in an entertaining way that captures children’s attention.  There are so many books and movies that portray many Christmas messages…this one tells the true meaning of Christmas very well.”

Andrew: “It is historically accurate for the most part but I found the birth scene of Jesus a bit disturbing.”

Carrie: “One of the reasons I like The Nativity Story is because you can really see how strong Mary and Joseph’s faith was and you see the kind of persecution they received from following after God’s perfect will.”

Sarah: ” I love everything about The Nativity Story.  I like it when they were traveling to Bethlehem because it was very interesting and I also like the part when Mary washed Joseph’s feet.  You could understand that Joseph was a good and Godly man.  I also liked the Wise Men storyline.”

I hope that you and your family will enjoy this movie

and watch it together this Christmas Season!

Sending MANY CHRISTMAS BLESSINGS your way!

    1. We do too, it’s a great one!

  2. Our family has been watching this movie on Christmas Eve (or maybe the day before) for over a decade now. I love how it brings Joseph to life. Often, Joseph gets lost in the Christmas story, but this movie shows he was as much a part of it as Mary.

    1. I feel exactly the same way, Patti! We must have similar tastes in movies! Thank you for taking the time to comment!
