I just love having people over to my home!  I am an extrovert, however, I am an extrovert with chronic illnesses and that puts a damper on things sometimes.  For that reason, I am excited to share 10 items that make hospitality easier!

Hospitality is a Biblical command.  It’s a critical way in which the gospel has always been spread.  Because of this fact, I have learned to simplify my hospitality systems as well as my expectations.  Put pride aside, people are the most important thing about opening your home to others, God values His creation.  Perfection is the enemy. It is my hope that you will embrace the slow and simple way of opening your home to others.

10 Items That Make Hospitality Easier

Drink Dispensers

These make life so much easier for everyone.  Having two drink dispensers makes it even easier!  My favorite drinks for hospitality are water with mint leaves and lemonade with sliced lemons.  Basically, these two drinks will satisfy all your guests, which is what hospitality is all about.  Making people welcome and meeting their needs.

Serving Platters and Bowls

My favorites are vintage of course but to start out having a few white serving bowls and platters will help you present a beautiful charcuterie board, set meat and side dishes for a formal dinner, or lay a simple buffet!  Serving pieces in white or silver go with anything so keep that in mind while you are choosing.

Glassware

My favorite glasses to use for most events are pint-size canning jars!  They are sturdy and hard to break! Even though we don’t drink much wine around here I still have wine glasses on hand to use as water glasses at formal sit-down holiday dinners.  They can be purchased very inexpensively or even collected at the thrift store.

White Dishes and Plates

It’s taken some time, but I have thrifted a whole set of white dishes.  I personally prefer ironstone because it’s tough and it lasts. I wish I would have thought to ask for these when I got married.  Oh, well, hindsight is always 20/20.  White plates and serving pieces go with everything! I like to combine them with other vintage china sets I have collected, especially my blue and white china!

Cheese Board/Cutting Board

These come in many styles and materials.  Cheeseboards in wood, marble and even sterling silver make hospitality easier.   As far as I’m concerned cheese and crackers are a must-have for any event.  It makes a great appetizer or snack. Cheese allows people to feel well fed and allows you to have something available that almost everyone likes even children.  My favorite cheese?  Well, of course, it’s Brie, or well maybe Havarti, or Smoked Gouda…

Galvanized Tub

I use this galvanized tub as a giant ice bucket!  It is fantastic for using outside but I have also used smaller galvanized pails as ice buckets inside.  Get creative and use what you have on hand.  Repurposing is so much fun!

Linen Napkins

You can thrift these, make your own, or purchase them new.  Linen napkins last forever and are easy to remove stains from.  Once you have enough you will no longer have to purchase paper napkins anymore which will save you money!

Crockpot

I suppose you could add an Instapot to this list however I still prefer a crockpot.  Slow-cooked food just tastes better!  As a mom of six, the crockpot is my dear friend.  It’s so simple and easy too!  When I offer hospitality to others I always and I mean always use the crockpot to prepare something to eat.  You can make Pulled Pork, Taco Meat, Creamy Potatoes, Soup, Sloppy Joes, and the list goes on and on!  Simplify your life with a slow cooker!

Kids Box

Folding Tables

I probably have something like 8 of these right now.  I have slowly picked folding tables up as needed over the years.  Throw a tablecloth over them and you are all set for a charming table.  Pick a flower bouquet from the garden and you are all set!  I really like folding tables because they save so much space and are easy to store!

May your life be easier because of these products!
