Are you looking for New Year’s Eve Activities for Families that every member of your family will enjoy? Look no more…
I have done some on-the-ground research for this post. Basically, I asked the kids I know what fun activities they wish they could do with their family this New Year’s Eve. Check out these INGENIOUS ideas from kids!
10 New Year’s Eve Activities For Families
- Family game night with lots of junk food! (age 14)
- Play Capture the Flag in the snow and in the dark by flashlight. Have hot chocolate and stay up late! (age 7)
- Give each member of the family a half-hour time slot to choose the activity for the family. We did this one New Year’s Day, and I still have so many funny memories of “Family Ballet Class”, “Family Mario Kart”, and “Family Nerf Gun War” to name just a few. 🙂
- Have a party with lots of friends and desserts. Having people stay late would be great, but not just to welcome the New Year. Rather, the longer they stay, the total time they are there, which is the goal. (age 17)
- Have a party at my house. For dinner, baby back ribs. For dessert, cannoli cream and brownies (not together). The dinner would be first. After that, hang out and play games like Catch Phrase, Whoonu, Apples to Apples, Super Showdown, Map Tangle, and Blurble. (age 9)
- Have a small party. I would not have a main meal, but I would have lots of hors d’oeuvres to snack on. For dessert, I would set out lots of different bowls and plates with candy, and people would bring desserts to share, too. In between eating, we would talk or play games together. I would also make sure there was jello and lots of good conversationalists. At the end of the party, one or two of my best friends would stay afterward, and we would have a sleepover that night and watch a movie. (age 13)
- Build a Lego city with my whole family and stay up until midnight! (age 5).
- Make a time capsule and fill it with special things from the year. Bury it in the backyard and dig it up next year. (age 10)
- Have a pizza party with my friends and my family. Eat lots of pizza and chocolate cookies. Stay up late and watch the ball drop on TV. (age 7)
- Play “Minute to Win games” all night. (I had no idea what minute-to-win games were, but now that I know, I am in!) (age 8)
Interestingly, most of these activities don’t cost a dime but rather involve time spent with others. I found this a very encouraging trend among the kids I surveyed. The other trend is FOOD. Depending on the size of the kids, that could cost you!
I would like to say a big thank you to the kids who helped me out with the post! I could not have done it without your input!
Wishing each one of you a Happy and Healthy New Year!
