I love wood furniture, especially antique furniture! The only problem with antique or “old” wood furniture is that they are usually covered in scratches. I am continually looking for ways to fix scratched wood that are EASY, QUICK, and FRUGAL.
An added BONUS is that these scratched wood remedies also work well on hardwood floors and molding!
Keeping my home in good condition is important to me. Valuing the things God has given me and making them last is an important part of good stewardship.
3 EASY Ways To Fix Scratched Wood
- Brown Shoe Polish: This is such an easy fix. I like to use a Q-tip when applying the brown shoe polish and gently rub it in the scratch until I get the desired color. I start with a very small amount of shoe polish and add layers until I achieve the correct color match. Wait until it dries and do a final color check. Need it darker? Add more shoe polish.
- Oil: I like Hemp Oil, but have used Olive Oil with good results. Start with a dry cloth and a little oil. Gently massage the oil into the scratch. I use an old t-shirt as a rag and start with just a little oil.
- Tea: This is another easy way to restore scratched wood. Brew a cup of tea and wring out the tea bag. Use the moist tea bag to stain the scratch. Leave the tea bag for half an hour and then check the progress. You want the scratch to be darker than the rest of the wood because it is wet and will dry lighter.
