I am truly blessed to have a WONDERFUL Mom!

I know everyone says that but I really do have an incredible and amazing Mom.  I have been contemplating how much of a good start in life I received because I have a loving mother.  If I really think about this I am overwhelmed by all she has given me!  Her sacrifices for me move me to tears and I am filled with thankfulness to God for blessing me so much!   Words seem so incomplete when describing a Mother’s love.  The power of her continued love and support throughout my life has often kept me going during difficult times.

My Mom is one of the most positive people I have ever met, she never complains!  She recently fell and broke her hip and had a full hip replacement.  I NEVER heard her complain once.  She was brave and determined to not let it keep her down.  It didn’t, in only 8 weeks from surgery she walked a mile with no cane or walker to raise money to cure Malaria in the Mosquito Stomp.

My Mom rarely yelled at my sister and I growing up.  Can you believe it?  Let me tell you, I deserved to be yelled at sometimes:)  She modeled effective communication that has helped me succeed in everyday life!  My Mom spent most of her time devoted to my sister and I, teaching and showing us new things.  She is incredibly self-controlled and that has been a source of encouragement to me as a parent.  I try to emulate her patience and self-control as I deal with my own children.  What a gift it is to see what those qualities look like lived out in a person’s life!

My Mom helps everyone and is the most generous person I know!  She gives of her time and resources with joy and is an inspiration to everyone she meets.  I am sure that I do not even know how generous she is.  She was a teacher for 30 years and in her retirement she volunteers at the homeless shelter, teaches Sunday School, is on her church’s prayer team and missions committee, grows food at our local community gardens, gives the food to our food pantry and weekly volunteers at the library and the local schools working with ESL students.  She is trained in Stephen’s ministry and weekly visits and encourages the elderly.  Not only that, but she has also always supported me in the education of my children, giving me a much-needed break over the years and she has COMPLETELY supported, served and helped in every way possible in the raising of our autistic daughter.  My daughter still goes twice a week to her house to spend the day with Grandma!   I know as I write this that I am forgetting many things she does for others!

My Mom gave me a love for all people.  There is NO PREJUDICE in her.  She treats all people equally.  She also gave me a vision for the value of children.  She sees each child she meets as unique, special, and full of potential which is becoming very rare in our culture.

My Mom is LOVING.  She loves everyone she meets and everyone loves her!  Just try going on a walk with her…she knows an innumerable amount of people and she only moved to this town 20 years ago.  Everyone knows and values my Mom!  She is wise and people seek her wisdom out daily.  My mom makes friends with everyone…if you have met her once she considers you a friend!

My Mom is a wonderful wife!  My father has Alzheimer’s Disease and lives in a Memory Care Unit.  My Mom visits him every day.  She has been married for 50 years and has displayed her loyalty, love, and dedication to my father over and over again.  She advocates for him on a daily basis.  I want to be a wife like her…she has fulfilled her marriage vows over and over again and has taught me how to never give up!  Persevering with dedication without ever wavering!
