Organize Your Bedroom In Three Steps

Organizing is a process.  It is meant to simplify your life so that you have time to participate in what you and your family value. Feeling overwhelmed by stuff is a sure fire way to become stressed and overwhelmed. My goal is always to make the process of organizing any room easy.

Before you started you may want to take a look at another of my posts.  How to organize your clothes.

Organizing is what you do before you do something,

so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up.

-A. A. Milne

Let’s start with the purpose of a bedroom.  Obviously, the main purpose is to have a place to sleep.  Most bedrooms have furniture and closets to store clothing so that is another purpose for a bedroom.  For me, the third purpose of my bedroom is a place of peace and tranquility. A place I can get away from the constant hustle and bustle of the activity of my home to my bedroom retreat.

The purpose of your room may be different however make sure you know what the purpose is and keep only those things needed in the bedroom to accomplish its purpose.  I don’t keep a television in my room because it would defeat the purpose of being a retreat for me but I do find reading extremely relaxing and therefore there needs to be a place to store books in my bedroom.  See what I am getting at?

Organize Your Bedroom In Three Steps

  • Step one is to remove anything in your bedroom that does not fit with the purpose of the room.  Either, place them in a more appropriate spot in your home or consider donating the items to a charity or a friend.
  • Step two is to address your storage needs.  Can all your clothes fit in your drawers or closets?  Do you have under bed storage?  If not it is time to sort through the items and give them to someone who needs them more.  You won’t be able to stay organized if you have too much stuff.
  • Step three, evaluate your bedroom to see if you need to add anything, like a clock, tissues on the nightstand, a plant on a sunny windowsill, throw blanket or more lighting.  Don’t go out and purchase these things rather shop your home to see if you can borrow a light or storage container from another room.  Be creative and see how nice you can make your bedroom now that it is organized!

YOUR TURN…

How do you organize your bedroom the frugal way?
