I could possibly shoot myself in the foot with this advice however, I am going to tell you anyway.  You may want to forget all the journaling rules that you have learned in the past and opt for an enjoyable and enriching experience!  Here’s how to simplify the daily habit of journaling.

First, let’s answer the question; why journal?

The advantages of journaling range from helping you reduce stress to propelling you forward in your pursuit of personal and academic growth.  Journaling research from Cambridge and Rochester Universities states that the practice of keeping a daily journal can help improve mental health, and emotional intelligence, achieve goals, and boosts memory!  When we add the practice of thankfulness to our journal we add even more benefits to our life.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly,

teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom,

singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,

with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Colossians 3:16

Simplify The Daily Habit Of Journaling

  • Simply keep a thankfulness journal.  Write three things you are thankful for every day.
  • Make a bullet journal of delights you encountered in your day.
  • Keep a prayer journal and make sure to include the answers.
  • Journal by drawing out your day.  Please don’t think you need to be an artist and make sure to have fun!
  • Just throw up on the page, and write your raw emotions out. Don’t worry about punctuation, spelling, or grammar.  Make sure to go back and reread it asking God to give you His wisdom.
  • Keep an electronic journal on your phone or computer.
  • Start small with a few thoughts jotted down daily.
  • Write out Bible verses to memorize in a journal.  All in one place and easy to use!
  • Pick any time of the day that works for you to write.
  • Create a nature journal.
  • Keep an old-fashioned diary where you pour out your secrets into a locked journal.
  • A Bible Study Journal.
  • Have a quote journal where you write down amusing things your children say.  Write out literary quotes that have meaning to you.
