Breathe, take a moment for yourself, brew a pot of tea or coffee, and cozy yourself in a comfy chair with a warm blanket.  Now, choose a book. Isn’t reading calming to your soul?  It is for me, I can’t imagine a day where I don’t take a few moments to read.  Here are some reading suggestions for books you will love! The following Simple Short Christian Book Reviews will help you pick the best book for you at this season of your life.

How you ask, does a book make The Peaceful Haven’s monthly Christian Book Reviews List?  Quite simply it must meet 3 qualifications.

  1. It must be written from a Christian Worldview.
  2. It must be written with excellence.
  3. It must encourage the reader to learn and grow in some way.

I would also like to point out that the books I review are not all new releases.  This is different from most book reviewers, even other Christian book reviews.  My goal is to give you praiseworthy reading options each month, not only presenting the new releases but other excellent choices that have been written 1 to 100 years ago. Often the golden oldies are the best!

FICTION

A Lineage of Grace: Five Stories of Unlikely Women Who Changed Eternity  This book written by Francine Rivers is a compilation of 5 of her books.  Not only will this superbly written book inspire your faith it is also an excellent value!  Five Books for the price of one.   A Lineage of Grace effortlessly brings the lives of these five Biblical Women to life.  This is a work of fiction that will cause you to contemplate your own faith journey as a woman of God.

BIOGRAPHY

George Muller: The Guardian of Bristol’s Orphans is one of my all-time favorite biographies.  I first read this excellent book as a family read-aloud when my children were younger.  It continues to be treasured and talked about many years later.  I just happen to be one of those people who re-reads books.  I read this biography of George Muller every year to encourage and grow my faith in regard to God’s amazing ability to provide for all our needs!   Enjoy this well-written book as a family or for pleasure reading for yourself.

HOME DECOR

Love the Home You Have: Simple Ways to…Embrace Your Style *Get Organized *Delight in Where You Are, inspired me in a very different way than most home decor books.    This rare gem written by Melissa Michaels caused me to contemplate ideas like contentment as well as creativity.     This book is packed with practical ways to enjoy your home and family life.  Great projects abound and a 31 Day guide to Love the Home you Have!

HEALTH

The Great Physician’s Rx for Health and Wellness: Seven Keys to Unlock Your Health Potential is a breath of fresh air in the increasingly cloudy business of good health and how to acquire it.    It seems that every month one hears of some new-fangled way to improve your health, many ideas are not well researched and ends up leaving you just as clueless as when you started.  Not so with this valuable resource.    Well documented and researched The Great Physician’s RX for Health and Wellness is in agreement with what the Bible has to say about good health and wellness.

HOMEMAKING

Simple Home Solutions: Good Things with Martha Stewart Living is amazing!  How could I have missed reading this exceptional book filled with homemaking knowledge for all these years?   As a seasoned homemaker, I learned a few things and that is saying something.  A few of my favorite items in Simple Home Solutions are that each project is easy to implement, the directions are crystal clear and most people will not have to purchase anything to put these solutions to everyday household problems into action.

COOKBOOK

Family Table: Farm Cooking from the Elliott Homestead is chocked full of delightful and delicious recipes!  One of my all-time favorite cookbooks.  The recipes can be easily adapted for food sensitivities.  The proof is that my brood of eight has loved every single recipe!  Shaye Elliott’s book makes a fine addition to Books You Will Love! DIY

Hand-Stitched Home: Embroidered Inspirations, Ideas, and Projects will inspire you to make beautiful handcrafted items for your home or for gifts.  Each project has clear directions that even one new to embroidery can accomplish.  As a side note,  this book would make an excellent gift for a young girl learning how to embroider.  I am confident you will enjoy this book,  it is visually appealing so even if you never do a project it still is time well spent.

SPIRITUAL

Feminine Appeal: Seven Virtues of a Godly Wife and Mother is a must-read for every single Christian woman out there!  Now, how is that for high praise?  Carolyn Mahaney has set about the task of defining seven virtues of womanhood and she has completed the task with grace.  With each word written, she inspires the reader toward authentic Biblical womanhood.    This book is a treasure you will want to re-read over the years to come and share with other women of faith including your own daughters.  Includes a discussion guide.

HOMESCHOOL

McGuffey’s Eclectic Readers 7 Volume Set is a glimpse into the past educational system of the United States and a vivid reminder of what we have lost in our new and so-called “improved” system of education here in America.   The McGuffey readers cover Language Arts however, it also covers much more than just that in these excellent readers.  Character training, elocution, phonics, grammar, and memorization to name just a few areas.     These books are not just for the homeschooling family, they are beneficial to any child in any educational system.   Do you ever wonder if your child has gaps in learning?  I do…have your children read and recite from these superior tools and you won’t worry anymore.

FINANCIAL

Money-Making Mom: How Every Woman Can Earn More and Make a Difference is the newest from Crystal Paine AKA the Money Saving Mom.    The title is a bit deceiving as this book is about so much more than a “money-making mom”…filled with real-life testimonies and lessons learned from Crystal’s failures and successes.  You will be given the tools you need to start making money from home.   This excellent book is just as much about making Godly choices, fulfillment, and generosity.  I highly recommend!

CHILDREN

Just In Case You Ever Wonder is a “Wonderful” story to share with your children.  This is bedtime reading at its best.  An important message with sweet illustrations. Just in Case you Ever Wonder sets about to answer the many questions children come up with about God.  Max Lucado has a way with words and he really delivers in this charming book.    It will become one of your child’s favorites and yours too!
