Reading is good for you!  How many things, in today’s day and age can you say that about?  Reading teaches us new things, expands our horizons, allows us to travel all over the world, stretches our imaginations! Now, that said, there are many poorly written books about less than ideal topics.  As Philippians 4:8 states, Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.  I am excited to share this month’s picks for Simple Short Christian Book Reviews and a GIVEAWAY too!

Fiction

I’ve been waiting a long time for a new Janette Oke book to come out and these books don’t disappoint! When I was a new Christian, I yearned to know what a Christian home looked like, and how it worked, and Janette taught me that.  She was my mentor and Titus 2 Woman.  Yes, I know, her books are fiction.  It didn’t matter, I am in part the woman I am today because I chose to learn the lessons she taught in her books.  I am thankful!  These, of course, are must-reads…Unyielding Hope and Sustaining Faith by Janette Oke and Laurel Oke Logan!

Evidence is surfacing that we are losing more than our power

of concentration to our addiction to the Internet.  When we are on the

net, our prevailing operational mode is one of retrieval, not retention.

The problem with that is that our brains’ neural pathways

are only as good as the cognitive tasks

we ask them to perform.

Biography

Call the Nurse: True Stories Of A Country Nurse On A Scottish Isle by Mary J. Cookbook

The Forager’s Pantry: Cooking With Wild Edibles written by Ellen Zachos really surprised me!  I didn’t really think there could be many good recipes in a foraging book, boy, was I wrong!  Warning, reading this book will make you hungry!  Another added benefit is that you will be looking everywhere for edibles you can forage in your part of the world.  One word of recommendation, take a class from your local parks system on foraging before you start.  Safety first…
