Homemade Dandelion Root Tea

  1. Go out to your own yard or park and dig up the dandelion root with the leaves and flowers (if they are in bloom).  Make sure you are picking dandelions from an area that does not use pesticides.  I use a small garden spade or a garden knife to dig around the root before I pull it out.
  2. Wash the dandelion root and leaves in cold water making sure to remove the dirt and any other plants that may get caught in the dandelion leaves.  Place the clean leaves and roots in a colander and let drip dry.
  3. Cut the root from the leaves and chop each root into thin slices or dice them.  Place the chopped dandelion root in a glass baking dish and spread the root evenly across the dish.  Bake for 12 hours at 150 degrees in your oven.
  4. When the root is dried store in a canning jar with a lid out of direct light.
  5. Brew 1 TBS. of dried dandelion root in 1 cup of hot water.  Let steep for 10 minutes and enjoy the health benefits!

What can you do with the remaining dandelion leaves?

You can either eat them in a salad or dry them in an oven using the same method.  Dandelion leaf tea also has many health benefits.
