I Will Love You No Matter What.  I’ve told my kids that I will love them no matter what, as long as I can remember…

Why?

Because when I became a Christian, Jesus told me He would love me no matter what.

Becoming a parent changed my relationship with God. For the first time, my soul was illuminated with His love for me. Holding my own children in my arms opened my heart to a whole new world of the Father’s amazing love.

On October 31st of this year, I had to face my greatest fear. My son was shot and killed in his native Honduras.

I feel hollow. I’ve run the gamut of emotions. Shock, deep inconsolable sadness, anger, despair, sleepless nights and anxious days, peace, love, forgiveness, and even resolve. I am sure there is much more to come as I learn how to grieve through this violent act that was perpetrated on my son.

I will never be OK again…

In the midst of the reality of that statement, I’ve come to realize that maybe I don’t want to be OK. God has promised to never leave me or forsake me. He has promised to love me no matter what I feel or do. Stand by me in the midst of unbearable pain.

He lost a son too…

His Son, Jesus Christ, suffered a long slow violent death. He chose to watch it and be present with Him in his sufferings. He was there in the midst of the evilest deed. Knowing that all of this messy world needs redemption from themselves. God never asks us to endure things He has not endured Himself. Oh, the blood of Jesus washes me!

Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Isaiah 16:18-19

One of the things I have been quietly learning is that Jesus really is enough to get you through any situation.

The other thing is more important. For the first time in my life, I can truthfully say, Father, I’ll love you no matter what.

Blessings,
