I am so excited to present you with Simple Short Christian Book Reviews!  Some months there are slim pickings and although I read through a ton of books I find very little that makes the list…but not this month.  I have been encouraged by my faith and want to share these excellent books with you.

As always, I am looking for books that will encourage and equip the Christian family.  Not all books are written by Christians but they all prepare women and children in their God-given roles.

HAPPY READING!

Simple Short Christian Book Reviews

SPIRITUAL

Characteristics of a Christian Woman is a gem!  Every now and again you stumble across a book that impacts you in a mighty way.  This book is filled to the brim with applicable scripture and real-life examples that will encourage you in your journey toward Biblical womanhood.  An added bonus is the thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter.  This is a must-read for every woman and daughter interested in growing in godliness.

HOME DECOR

Country Living American Style takes a look at how our decorating styles match our characteristics as Americans.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and enjoyed every gorgeous photograph.  I am a bit of a history buff and I loved looking at interior design through the lens of our American DNA.  If you are looking for creative ideas to approach making your house a home then this is a great resource to have on hand.

SEWING

Another lovely book for this month’s Simple Short Christian Book Reviews is The Belle and Boo Book of Crafts is a charming read with a capital C!  But what I love best about this book is that every single sewing project inspires the imagination.  Children will have hours of wholesome play with the projects in this book and I look forward to sewing them for the young children in my life.  Top on my list is the “play” house on the cover of the book!

CHILDREN

Inside Noah’s Ark Why it Worked is a visual and intellectual read-aloud for the whole family.  It is interesting in the extreme and would even make a great addition to your homeschool, private school, or public school curriculum!  This book is for all ages and will capture even the youngest reader with its pictures.  You are going to love this one!

My ABC Bible Verses: Hiding God’s Word in Little Hearts is a treasury of Bible memory verses.  It is never too young to start hiding God’s word in your child’s heart.  Some books have stood the test of time and My ABC Bible Verses surely has.  This is a classic and our copy has worn edges and looks bedraggled…it is that good!

FINANCES

Business Secrets from the Bible was recommended by Dave Ramsey and so I was interested.  To say I learned a few things would be an understatement.  A good book makes you want to learn more about the subject and this book has filled me with more questions that have taken me directly back to the Bible.  I found only one thing I disagreed with…which is pretty good for me.  Business Secrets of the Bible is worth your time to read, although it is labeled as a business book it is really about life and ministry.

FICTION

The Princess Adelina, first caught my attention because it is about Scottish and Irish missionaries, specifically from Iona.  As I am a descendant of these countries and I love reading books set in Great Britain I was automatically interested.  This book is historical fiction and tells of the unshakable faith of Adelina, the daughter of missionary parents.  A story to encourage your faith as this brave maiden overcomes persecution and the gospel of Jesus Christ prevails.  This tale is based on a true story and will have you enthralled with this well-written book!

COOKBOOK

One Pot is a cookbook that will have you cooking time-saving EASY meals that are healthy and nutritious for your family.  I have cooked my way through most of the recipes and have loved each one.  The recipes for the slow cooker are worth the price of the book!

Another exceptional cookbook/ lifestyle book is Handmade Gatherings: Recipes and Crafts for Seasonal Celebrations and Potluck Parties!  So many good ideas including crafts for kids and adults to do together.  If you are looking for a book that celebrates the seasons, in a meaningful way and includes excellent recipes then this is the book for you!

GARDENING

A Home in Bloom: Four Enchanted Seasons with Flowers by Christie Purifoy is a treasure plain and simple.  Christie is an amazing writer and a wordsmith.  She stirs the soul and all in a gardening book. Find a quiet spot in your home, pour a hot cup of tea, and slowly read and soak in the words of this book.  Stunning Photography!

BIOGRAPHY

50 People Every Christian Should Know is a treasure trove of the faithful Christian brothers and sisters that have gone before us.  We are desperate for role models, our children are desperate for people that they can look up to and be encouraged to hold tightly to their faith.  That is the purpose of this book,  and it is complete in its purpose.  Makes a great addition to family devotions or your educational curriculum!

HEALTH

The Seven Pillars of Health gives you the how and why of good health.  This book was originally written to help pastors stay in the ministry longer.  You won’t want to miss reading about what Dr. Colbert has to say about the seven pillars of health.  What are the seven pillars?  Water, sleep and rest, living food, exercise, detoxification, nutritional supplements, and coping with stress all from a Christian perspective!

HOMEMAKING

The Hospitality Commands is a little book that will convict and guide you to understand why God takes the ministry of hospitality so seriously.   Contrary to popular belief hospitality is NOT entertaining.  It is a beautiful representation of the gospel.  You don’t want to miss this one!
