I’m sure many of you have heard about the Dirty Dozen and the Clean Fifteen. Here is a new take, eat the Daily Dozen and the Clean Fifteen. Well, actually, it may be just a play on words…

The Dirty Dozen is a list of the current fruits and vegetables that have the highest levels of pesticide on and in them. As you can see, the list has many things that children love to eat. Print and bring this list with you as you grocery shop to simplify the whole process.

 

The Dirty Dozen

  5. Grapes
  6. Peaches
  7. Cherries
  8. Pears
  9. Tomatoes
  10. Celery
  11. Potatoes

Here are the items the EWG identified for its “Clean 15,” which is reported as the least likely to contain pesticide residue.

  6. Sweet Peas
  7. Papayas
  8. Asparagus
  9. Mangoes
  10. Eggplants
  11. Honeydews

The Daily Dozen and The Clean Fifteen

Scientists used to believe that although organic produce was healthier to eat, there wasn’t much difference in nutrition. Now, we know, thanks to the British Journal of Nutrition, that organic fruits and vegetables deliver between 20 and 40 percent more antioxidants than conventional fruits and vegetables. Now, for the health of our family and ourselves, we must try our very best to purchase organic fruits and vegetables or select from the Clean Fifteen List.
